1. What is "Sleep Day"?

"Sleep Day" was established by the Sleep Health Promotion Organization* with the aim of spreading correct knowledge about sleep and contributing to the promotion of public health. March 18th has been designated "Spring Sleep Day" and September 3rd has been designated "Autumn Sleep Day."

(Autumn Sleep Day was set on September 3rd, based on the pun on the Japanese word "sleeping soundly").

In both spring and autumn, the week before and after the event will be designated as "Sleep Health Week," during which a variety of activities will be carried out to improve quality of life (QOL) through sleep.

During this time of year when fatigue is likely to set in during the summer and autumn, ZINUS would like to help you improve the quality of your sleep by reviewing your mattress and providing tips on finding the mattress that's right for you.

Please improve the quality of your sleep!

2. Check when changing mattress

Do you feel like you're not getting a good night's sleep lately? Do you wake up with back pain, or feel like you're still tired?

If so, it may be time to change your mattress.

Check the following mattress replacement checklist to see if it's time to change your mattress. Simply changing your mattress can significantly improve the quality of your sleep!

If any of these points apply to you, it may be time to change your mattress, so please consider it.

■ Check when changing mattress ■

  1. I no longer feel fully rested even after a night's sleep
  2. I've been using it for over 10 years
  3. It has become softer since I bought it.
  4. Your weight has changed dramatically since you purchased your current mattress.
  5. The mattress creaks when you turn over in bed
  6. There is noticeable sagging or denting in the area where you sleep
  7. I started to worry about dust

So, which mattress is right for you?
I think the first question many people have when choosing a mattress is: should I get a soft mattress or a hard mattress?

Next, we have prepared a check to see which types of people are suited to soft and hard mattresses, so please check it out here !

3. Which is better, a soft mattress or a hard mattress?

■ What is a soft mattress? What is a hard mattress? ■

The softness and firmness of a mattress is largely subjective, but here we will introduce some guidelines.

Characteristics of a soft mattress

  1. Sink into it and embrace your body
  2. It conforms to the natural curves of your body and moves with you even when you change positions.
  3. Multiple layers of microfiber and memory foam
  4. When you get up, temporary body marks remain.

Characteristics of a hard mattress

  1. The soft upper layer is not very thick
  2. The base layer is dense and strong (often made up of coils)
  3. Leaves almost no marks on the mattress
  4. There is a bouncy sensation

■ Check the mattress compatibility ■

We've introduced the characteristics of both soft and hard mattresses, but it can be difficult to decide which is best for you.

We will introduce a checklist of points that match well with each mattress on a separate page , so please use the checklist as a reference to choose the mattress that suits you best!

4. How to make your mattress last longer

A mattress is a big purchase, and you want to use it for as long as possible. Here are some maintenance methods to ensure it lasts a long time.

[1] Rotate

Rotation means turning the mattress 180 degrees and swapping the top and bottom (head and foot) positions.

Dents can be prevented by rotating the wheels and avoiding weight being placed on one spot.

If a dent forms, it becomes difficult to maintain a natural sleeping posture, which can lead to back pain, stiff shoulders, and reduced sleep quality.

Particular care is needed around the lower back and buttocks, where pressure tends to concentrate. By rotating your mattress once every two months, you can enjoy using it for a long time.

[2] Flip it over

Some mattresses can be flipped over.

Check with the manufacturer and if it can be turned upside down, turn it upside down. By combining this with rotating it 180 degrees, you can efficiently avoid putting weight on one spot.

[3] Prevent moisture

It is said that people sweat a cup's worth of sweat per night while sleeping, and if moisture accumulates in the mattress, it can reduce hygiene and comfort.

If you are concerned about humidity, try draping a duvet over a chair after waking up to allow the mattress to breathe. If your mattress is against a wall, leaving a gap between the mattress and the wall can also help with ventilation .

During the rainy season, it is a good idea to dehumidify with an air conditioner or prop up your mattress .

Another way to prevent moisture from building up is to choose a bed frame with a slatted base .
