1. What is a hard mattress?

The hardness and softness of a mattress is largely subjective, but here we will introduce the characteristics of a firm mattress.

■ Characteristics of a hard mattress ■

  1. The soft upper layer is not very thick
  2. The base layer is dense and strong (often made up of coils)
  3. Leaves almost no marks on the mattress
  4. There is a bouncy sensation

2. Check the hardness of the mattress

What kind of person would be satisfied with a good night's sleep on a firm mattress?

Let's check it out with the match check!

If any of these apply to you, consider a firmer mattress.

  1. Feeling sagging or sinking in the mattress
  2. People who are overweight
  3. People who sleep on their stomachs
  4. People who are sensitive to heat
  5. People who need to turn over frequently during sleep

1. I feel sagging or sinking in the mattress

Is your current mattress sinking too much? If you sleep on your back and your lower back sags or you feel like certain parts of your body are under pressure, it may be that your mattress is sinking too much.

You may want to consider a firmer mattress to provide better support for your body.

If you have been using your mattress for many years, it may be nearing the end of its lifespan and you should consider replacing it .

2. People who are overweight

People who are heavy (approximately 90 kg or more) tend to sink deeper into the mattress.

Therefore, if your mattress is too soft, it can put pressure on certain areas, causing pain and discomfort.

The discomfort also leads to more tossing and turning, which can lead to a decrease in the quality of sleep.

Choosing a firm mattress will prevent you from sinking too much and allow you to sleep in a natural position.

3. People who sleep on their stomachs

When sleeping on your stomach, your chest and lower back tend to sink into the mattress, causing your lower back to arch.

If the mattress is too soft, the curve of the lower back may become deeper, causing discomfort in the lower back and back. It is important to choose a mattress that is firm enough so that the lower back does not sink in too much.

On the other hand, if it is too hard, you may find it difficult to breathe, so it is important to choose a mattress with just the right hardness.

4. People who are sensitive to heat

If your body sinks too far into the mattress, you may feel hot because you feel like you are being wrapped up in it.

A firmer mattress will keep your body from sinking too much, which can make you feel cooler.

Firm mattresses are also often made up of coils, which means they are more breathable than foam-only mattresses.

5. People who need to turn over frequently during sleep

A firm mattress will sink less, making it easier to move around on it.

So if you have an injury or health condition that makes it difficult for you to get in and out of the mattress, or if you frequently turn over or need to change positions during the night, you may want to consider a firm mattress.

If you feel that a hard mattress doesn't suit you, try checking out our "Soft Mattress Match Check."

4. How to make your mattress firmer

If you feel that your mattress is too soft, you may be able to use it to your advantage and adjust it to be firmer.

[1] Rotate

Try rotating your mattress.

Try rotating it 180 degrees, swapping the top and bottom (head and feet), or checking with the manufacturer and if possible, try flipping it over.

Areas of your mattress that you lie on frequently are more likely to wear out, and rotating them can add years to their lifespan.

Rotating the mattress may make it feel firmer.

We recommend rotating it about once every two months.

[2] Add a hard topper

Try adding a firm mattress topper to your mattress. A topper is a piece of bedding that you place on top of your mattress to improve your sleeping comfort.

It is about 5cm to 10cm thick, so small people, light people, and children can use just one sheet like a futon.

Toppers are cheaper and easier to use than mattresses and can effectively change the way you sleep.

Recommended firm topper, high-resilience, tri-fold urethane foam mattress (zj-tmttr1-03)

This high-density foam mattress features a 9cm thick, high-resilience base foam that distributes pressure from head to toe, providing continuous, comfortable sleep for extended periods of time .

It can be used on its own like a futon, making it useful for everyday use and for guests. It can be folded into three pieces, making it easy to store.
